Drain & Sewer Safety Boundaries
When the right answer is to stop troubleshooting.
Visible sewage or wastewater
Stop adding water to the system, avoid contact, and keep children and pets away. EPA and CDC guidance treat sewage exposure as a public-health concern because wastewater can contain pathogens.
Water near electrical equipment
Do not enter standing water or touch electrical equipment in or near the affected area. Use qualified emergency help when there is an immediate electrical hazard.
Strong unidentified gas-like odor
Do not assume every “sewer” smell is from a drain. If you cannot confidently distinguish it from a fuel-gas leak, leave the area and contact the appropriate local gas utility or emergency service. Avoid switches, flames and tools in the area.
What we intentionally do not teach
We do not use roof access as a homeowner diagnostic step, recommend mixing drain chemicals, or give instructions for high-pressure sewer cleaning. The product is built for symptom mapping and triage, not risky repair work.
